This stud finder does it's job. Worked well for me when after moving into our new home, we needed to hang dozen of pictures and artworks throughout the house. This device will find studs and electrical wiring, but it cannot tell you if those studs are wood or metal. For the typical homeowner, that should not be a problem because you probably already know the type of studs you have. For the professional or freelance handyman who may be drilling into the walls of many different job sites, I would recommend spending a little more and get one that detects stud types, electrical and water lines.

Love it. LOVE IT. Had a nightmare trying to find actual studs using one of those Chinese stud finders, it gave me false readings all over the place. Sure it was fancy with different depth readings and it claimed it could detect steel and whatever, but -- it was a nightmare to use. Threw it in the trash.Saw all the 5-star reviews on Franklin. Practically no "features", it just tells you where the stud is, and gives you a really really good indication where the center of that stud is.It's got a series of sensors, and each one lights up when it detects a density difference behind the drywall. The practical effect is that it shows five red lights when there's a stud there. You can slide it up, down, sideways, whatever, those five lights will show where the stud is. Move it side to side, and the five lights will move across the sensor, targeting exactly where the stud is. And if you move the sensor so it's centered over the stud, then a green light pops up to show you where the center is.This particular unit also senses live electrical wire behind the drywall. It doesn't give you fancy graphs or drawings like the crapola cheapo sensors; instead it just lights up a yellow "electricity" symbol if it detects live wires. You can move it up, down, and around, to narrow where the wires are.Those other sensors are like all-in-one multitools, but I've had a few and they all just suck. The Franklin is like a sledgehammer -- it does exactly what it does, it doesn't do anything else, it has one job, and it NAILS that job.

This is clearly the BEST stud finder I have ever bought and/or used. I am 60 years old, do a lot of DIY, and I have used probably 5 or 6 other stud finders in my life, and this one is the best. Its horizontal orientation makes it easier to hold for extended periods of time, and it gives a clear and accurate view of the 2x4 stud as you slide the finder horizontally across the wall. I just used it to find studs behind plaster and wood lathing walls in a 103 year old house with no problem! Found the studs on the first try, and did not drill any erroneous holes at false stud locations.

Easy to use on drywall to find studs and centers, mixed results with horsehair plaster walls and lathe. Was able to find a few in the plaster, so not a total fail.

Works as it should. It was very easy to use. We were able to find the studs center to mount our 65 inch screen TV. Definitely worth the money. Buy it!

Got fed up with the stud finders that search for an edge. Cannot say just how many false readings those gave me. I am so glad I bought this one based on an online article I read. This one shows you EXACTLY where the full stud is. You can actually pass your fingers in front of it and watch it trace your movement.

Very easy to use and worked great! Love that it lights up the whole stud with center point.

Works just like the YouTube video shows. Perfect little helper for finding studs to mount my big ass TV's.
